Ascender Mips Helmet

Sweet Protection's lightest, most packable helmet to date, the Ascender MIPS Helmet is specifically designed for ski mountaineering—with plenty of features for the climb and the descent. This low-profile helmet doesn't sacrifice performance for weight. Instead it uses Advanced Hybrid Variable Elasticity shell technology to transfer the impact in critical zones, while dual-density EPS foam optimizes impact performance specifically for the area and MIPS technology reduces the rotational force transferred to your head in a crash. The Ascender is triple-certified and weighs in at under a pound.

Game changer

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

It is very comfortable but feel safe. Used in spring snow and Backcountry skiing. Very light and open. Fresh air around your head. You have to use solar protection on your ears!!

Well reviewed, not for me

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I purchased this helmet for ski mountaineering and backcountry skiing based on the positive review in Backcountry Magazine. I decided to return it unused for a few reasons. 1. Although it provides MIPS protection it weighs about the same as better insulated helmets. 2. I found it difficult to manage goggles as the back half of the helmet doesn't come down very far. I usually don't tour with the helmet on, but put it on when descending or if there are rock fall concerns - so ultimately having extra insulation was something I realized I wanted

Amazing Helmet

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I am sorry the previous reader had a negative experience with this helmet. Please know its truly is a revolutionary helmet. Also, please know I don?t have a horse in this race. But I am an industry expert, a ski area manager, ski patrol, and an alpine ski coach. What the previous reviewer was referring to in their opening comment, the four attachment points, that?s the heart of the MIPS system. The plastic layer connected by four points, provides slide, rather than grip, if our fragile melons take a hit. By reducing grip and intruding slide, the helmet essentially prevents whip-lash type forces from injury to the brain. (i.e MIPS disperses the rotational force from reaching our brains directly). Anyway, I happen to love this helmet. It?s light and it works great for its intended purpose. That said, everyone?s head is different, so what might fit some might not work for the next...Happy hunting.
