Can't get a good fit

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I have a 31" waist, and reading the reviews decided I should size up to the M (32"-34" waist) to avoid the tightness many reviewers mention. But while they're comfy and even a bit roomy up top, the thigh is unbelievably tight and constricting-- it leaves a red mark at the end of a workout. It's not the full thigh barrel, it's just the single line of elastic at the hem, so it's not even like a compression short, it's more like a tourniquet at the bottom. I'm a slim guy, buy slim jeans, and I sized up, and that thigh opening is still not workable. I can't imagine what body type this would work for

You can ?fix? the new tight fit

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

A bunch of people have already written about the new tight fit around the thighs for the new cut of these these. You can ?fix? this by pulling the end of thigh opening outward until a few of the stitches actually snap. Totally loosens them up. The offending stitching is actually along the upper hem and shouldn?t effect the overall durability, just be careful not to tear the actual leg.

Too tight around the legs,,,, might need to order the next largest size.... sizing might not be accurate as advertised.

Not like previous versions!

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

My husband is a longtime wearer of these Stoic wool boxers in a medium, but they must have changed something about the cut because he could barely fit his legs through the leg opening. Go back to the previous design!!

Tight leg opening

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Logged in to echo similar comments. I am 6' 195 lbs with a 32 waist. I bought the medium and the waist fits fine, but the leg opening only stretches so much until the stitching reaches its limit. Do not buy these if you have somewhat muscley thighs. I wore these for 4 days backpacking, wearing them only when actually hiking. From that limited (but sweaty) use, the fabric on the waistband of the lower back is permanently stained now.

Still good, but a design change to note

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I have bought these briefs for many years. They last a long time but will eventually develop holes at the waistband (after YEARS) and an upgrade is required. To be clear, I get my money out of them. They last a long time and I am not disappointed with the longevity. My recent order (9/2021) was different than all previous versions, though. I usually get a size Large (6'2" 180) and the large fits like a true brief, snug, but still loose. The new design fits snug. I think that is the trend for men's underwear lately so is probably intentional. The leg openings are particularly tight though. That is new... It must be that there was an overall fabric material change and the new material is not as stretchy, so when it is doubled over at the leg opening seam it comes across tighter. That, or they use a non stretchy thread which binds the fabric into a fixed opening. Anyway, it's not the same. I think the description should have at least noted a re-design. If they put these on close-out pending a new design, though, I'll still buy a bunch while awaiting the more comfortable design tweak. :) Still great underwear, just notably different than prior versions.

Paul nailed it

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Usually love Stoic Merino but had a similar experience to what Paul noted below. "The new design is markedly different, particularly around the bottom of the leg openings. For some reason, the material is inflexible and so constricting that it feels like there is a string tied around my thighs."

changed fit

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've purchased a couple dozen of these in the past, and they were outstanding in fit and comfort. The new design is markedly different, particularly around the bottom of the leg openings. For some reason, the material is inflexible and so constricting that it feels like there is a string tied around my thighs. The rest of the construction and comfort seems to be similar to the last design, but current design is uncomfortable to a degree that I would not purchase these again.

Cut change

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This is my third pair of merino boxers from Stioc. The first two were awesome. The best underwear ever! This time they changed the cut on the legs. I have larger thighs and they are uncomfortably tight now. Probably fine for guys with skinny legs.
