Using the Aerocore construction pioneered on Smith's Variance Helmet, the Quantum MIPS Helmet offers impressive ventilation and impact-dispersion with its honeycomb-inspired Koroyd material. Improving upon the best-selling Variance Helmet, the Quantum MIPS features Exoskeleton zonal impact protection that reinforces the sides, which are prone to damaging impacts. As you'd expect from a premium helmet, the MIPS liner increases protection in the case of an angled impact. This low-friction liner allows the helmet to rotate independently around your head in the event of an impact, helping to dissipate rotational forces.

Quality Lid but Very Noisy
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I've been skiing for 30 years and I think most gear is subjective. Helmets are no exception. What fits one person won't be comfortable to someone else. The Quantum was a good fit for me. I have more of a rounded head. I liked the Pret but it seems to be more for an oval head. I don't understand the complaints about bulk. A MIPS helmet is constructed to protect from impacts at different impact angles. That will make it a bit bulkier but I don't think the weight is an issue for me (I'm 6'1" 190 lbs.). I'm bald and it's comfortable without a head liner. Although the magnetic fastener took 2-3 times to get the hang of, it is a huge upgrade and I love it. VERY easy to get on and off. I don't understand the complaints on this feature. To be fair, I ski 3-5 days a week. Maybe folks who ski a couple days every 5-6 weeks may not have had enough practice with it? My only complaint, and its a big one and the reason for the 3 stars - this lid is very noisy with the vents open. For something this expensive, you'd think Smith's research & development would be able to construct something that doesn't have this problem. My previous helmet was a Giro, and it was very quiet with the vents open. I wear the Quantum with Smith Mag googles and the fit is understandably good. I would recommend the helmet, but if you ski with helmet vents open more often than not, you may want to look elsewhere.

Excellent Helmet, Only Issue is Discoloration of Matte White
I've used the helmet twice, it feels great so far. There is one large issue though. The matt-white seems to have a discoloration issue and is yellowing along the edges. I saw online afterward, others had the same issue with the matte-white and think it could be due to the bag it comes with. I've requested a response from the warranty on what they recommend doing with it.

Good protection but too bulky
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
So overall, you get what you pay for, quality is good but still feels too bulky. Also, earpads are not removable, and size L for 62cm was smaller and uncomfortable.

Cold AF
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Only complaint may not be avoidable for MIPS helmets, but you must know that this helmet is like skiing with an air conditioner on your head. I can be perfectly warm on the rest of my body, but due to the MIPS interface, there's no insulation AND there's an air gap around your entire head. Skied it a few warmish days in SLC then this week at big sky. It's topping at 15 mid mountain, and I am skiing around with an ice cream headache every run. Fit is great, Smith googles obviously match perfectly, got some speakers and they are even better than I had expected. Chips 2.0 or something? When you put em in be sure to trim the foam so the driver is actually over the ear. Boa ratchet is great and even keeps it secure with my gopro max wagging around on my head like a teletubby. Chin strap clasp is awesome. I have the same on a fox dh bike helmet I got last year. There's a review saying it's difficult with gloves etc. To each his own, so I'll say it this way: if you hold the strap NEAR the other end, it automatically grabs the clasp. It simply doesn't get any better. I will never buy another helmet without this feature if I don't have to. I'm going to have to glue some soft foam around the perimeter in order to seal out the drafts, but otherwise super happy with this helmet
