Why We Like The Network MIPS Helmet
We live for the all-day rides, carving our way up dramatic canyons, cruising through miles of wild vineyards, and along coastal highways — but admittedly, we're not always so lucky to have the time. Often times we're limited to our daily commute to get in the weekday miles, and crave equipment that is versatile enough to bounce back and forth from one to the other. Designers at Smith seem to have received our asks, and answered thoroughly with the Smith Network MIPS Helmet. All new for 2018, the Network Helmet finds an uncanny balance of style, versatility, and performance, packing in MIPS and Koroyd technology to protect, with modern design and ventilation to keep you looking, and feeling cool, whether on your commute or your all-day epic.
Smith's Koroyd technology is found in the funny looking layer of honeycomb tubes that run beneath the outer shell and more traditional EPS foam throughout the helmet. It's made of thousands of tiny, extruded co-polymer tubes that absorb impact but have a fenestrated surface that allows for a level of breathability impossible to achieve with solid EPS foam while absorbing a claimed 30% more energy. Plus, it's pretty cool looking, especially in Smith's mix of contrasting and complementary color schemes.

Great style and color selection.
Great style and color selection. Would welcome options for additional padding, especially on top. Any suggestions? (I'm a senior male citizen with thinning hair.)

Second time purchasing
This is the second Network helmet I purchased after years of using my first. I really love the velcro visor, since I find cycling caps too warm for southern California. I actually wish it came with a spare because admittedly that's the first thing that gets a bit gross over time. Loving this green color!

The Networks MIPS is a Horrible Helmet
Legitimately dangerous. Genuinely terrible product. Shattered in a week. Posting a review for 4th time to demonstrate they delete negative reviews and sending to the powers that be.

Not dead thanks to this helmet
I got my girlfriend this helmet and today she crashed going about 30 on a gravel road. Hit straight to her head. She walked away with just road rash. The doctor told me she would no doubt be dead if not for the nice helmet she was using. I definitely recommend this helmet. We both will be wearing these from now on. Sadly hers is trashed :(

Perfect
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Two winter rides in the books with this helmet, both on road and a bit of gravel. Didn't even think about the helmet. Fit, comfort, weight etc all spot on. Might get another for back up! I have a 6 1/8 head size and the medium is perfect. Accommodates thin hat for winter well also.

This helmet saved my life
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I went on a long bike ride and during a descent nearly wrapped myself around a pole. This helmet cracked but I walked away from the accident totally fine. I bought this exact same helmet again and continue to use it. Whatever you do get a helmet with MIPS! Protect your noggin!

Not my favorite
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
I purchased this brand on the recommendation of a friend. My older helmet isn't MIPS and I know it's good to upgrade every few years. We were training for a 1 day 150 and riding some parts or route along highway. Safety 1st. I noticed this helmet had weight to it. Then I noticed it held in heat more than I'd ever felt before. It was too small. I returned it. The LBS told me Smith is known for great ski helmets. They haven't gotten cycling helmets down yet. I went with a Specialized helmet with ANGI and it's a MIPS. Loved it immediately.

very comfortable and stylish
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
After 200-some miles of tarmac, gravel, and some dirt, I'm pretty happy with the Network MIPS. It fits my head very comfortably, and provides decent ventilation. I opted for the Matte Neon Yellow Viz because it is more visible to drivers than a dark colored helmet, but at the same time it doesn't look ridiculous like some of the competitor's hi-viz offerings. The styling is great. The rating would bump up to 5 stars with improved ventilation. It's not bad, actually pretty good, but the Koroyd on the sides does limit airflow a bit. Don't let this scare you away - I'll be happy to wear this helmet in 90+ degree humid days - but if ventilation is a priority for you then there are others that do better in this regard (but of course you will pay for it).
