Sticky strap ruins lense and helmet
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
This is my 2nd pair of Smith I/Os. My first pair went 8 hard years before the foam started to disintegrate (IMO this is very normal and I was still a huge fan). Instantly replaced with another last year (2022 model). Off the bat something off. The lense change latch felt noticably cheaper and lense changes that had a satisfying click kinda just mushed in. But what ended up being a huge red flag was the strap. There was a sticky line of something like those sticky hand toys for kids you get out of a quarter machine. Just thought "I guess they know what they're doing" and just used it. After the first season no real issues but upon slapping it on my helmet for my 2nd season the sticky goo complete melted. The inside of the lense had a large smear and my also brand new Smith maze helmet was covered everywhere with it. Alcohol gets it off the hard shell but it's still on the ear pads and IMO is unusable. I don't think I'll be going back to Smith anymore, this was lame. Goggles were covered under warranty, helmet was not, my fault for using their goggles I guess? Shipping is not covered for warranties FYI.

Disappointing Lens Quality
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I absolutely love Smith products and was very excited to pair these goggles with my Smith helmet for a "Smith system" The goggles come with 2 pairs of lenses and everything looks great, really sharp and performed well during my first day on the slopes. The issue is the lenses scratch extremely easily when cleaned as directed with the bag they come in, after wiping each carefully they are basically rendered useless. I may have got a lemon? But the results are very disappointing considering the investment I made, I was ready to rock these for my normal 5 year cycle. I am back to my Oakleys, had them for 5 years and barely a scratch with constant cleaning both at home and slope side. Backcountry took care of the return so I am happy on that end, excellent customer service.

Functional and Comfortable
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I purchased these to protect my eyes while operating my lawnmower. They do a great job of keeping debris out and not fogging over. Comfortable for hours of use. Might even wear them skiing this winter.
