Why We Like The Essential MTB Short

Whether you're just getting started trail riding, or you're a seasoned veteran, getting your staples dialed is the first step to a new riding season, and POC's essential MTB short makes a perfect start. These trail-ready baggies feature lightweight, durable nylon fabric that stretches with you, while actively seeking out sweat and pulling it away from your skin to keep you dry. They are cut for the trail, with a little extra coverage at the back to keep you covered when you're on the bars, and pre-bent knees ideal for hammering on the pedals. The long inseam provides coverage against scrub oak and low-hanging branches, and pairs up seamlessly with body armor, so you don't have uncomfortable gaps. To finish the Essential shorts off, POC tops them with a DWR coating for shedding mud and stains, and packs in adjustable hook-and-loop tabs at the waist for a comfortable fit that's fine tuned just for you.

BEWARE THE FIT RUNS EXTREMELY SMALL!

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I'm so disappointed as I love the material, construction and color (brown), however the fit runs extremely small! I'm 5'4" 115lb and wear small in Fox, Club Ride and Dakine so after looking over the fit chart I felt confident in getting size small. After waiting a week for the package to arrive I opened it up and seriously laughed at how small the shorts are. They can fit someone in elementary school. So bummed that now I have to return them, UGH.

They changed the fit. BOO!!!

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

My all time favorite shorts were my POC Women's Trail Shorts. I am a cyclist... I therefore have quads. They fit me perfectly in a way that shorts NEVER fit me. I eagerly bought these: same wonderful tough but stretchy fabric... same comfortable waist... but hugged my legs like they were lycra. Devastated. I am giving 3 stars because the material is awesome. I have crashed in them (my old POC's) and it averted road rash, but they are also so stretchy and never too hot for me. Great quality but so sad they changed the fit.

Finally, long shorts

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Just tried these on, but first impression is good! Based on the reviews I bought L. My first instinct was to trade in for a medium because they were a tiny bit baggy, but I'll hold onto them and see after a ride. They have a velcro thing on the back so you can tighten the waist if you need to. I had to tighten it a little bit. These will look super good with knee pads. They're nice and king with two zip pockets in the front.

Favorite shorts

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This was my second pair of these shorts. The length is great, the fabric is strong and stretchy, they're really comfortable. They are a slimmer fit. I'm 5'7" 130lbs and usually am a schmedium (between a small and medium) and the medium fits perfectly.

Best mountain bike shorts I've owned

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I ordered probably 10 different mountain bike shorts to find the 'best' and these were it. I love the length (no knee pad gap!) and the fit. I ordered two pairs and I will be ordering more. The only thing I wish it had was a side pocket to hold my phone.

Slim fitting, which I love!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

The shorts are a bit more fitted, which I love for certain riding situations. Pockets are a little small but I love the look and feel and simply wear a fanny pack if I need to carry my giant phone. I don?t Generally love the phone in my pocket anyway so it?s not a deal killer. Still love these shirts!!

Slim fit and small pockets

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I really wanted to love these shorts, I love POC, the material is amazing and they have zip pockets. However they were more fitted than I wanted them to be (if you have quads, these are NOT baggie), and the pockets were just a little small, they fit my phone but when pedaling the phone would bump into my pelvis. Unfortunately I'll have to return. For size reference, I'm a women's size 8-10 and the Large fit me well, aside from the thigh fit being more fitted then I'd like.
