Why We Like The R1 Fleece 1/2-Zip Pullover
Warm, stretchy, and always breathable enough for our active cool-weather pursuits—there's a reason that the R1 Fleece 1/2-Zip Pullover has been a trusted mainstay of Patagonia's lineup for the past 20 years. This ultra-versatile midlayer joins us everywhere, from fall desert climbing sessions to spring backpacking trips and early morning ski tours.
It uses a Patagonia-exclusive Polartec Power Grid fleece that features a special grid design to enhance airflow and wick sweat when you're working hard in falling temps. It's also infused with spandex, offering an easy stretch that keeps any hold within reach when you're chasing sunlight on end-of-day climbs. The deep chest zipper allows for cooling ventilation when you really start to get going, while offset shoulder seams ensure comfort under pack straps on early-morning starts.

GARBAGE PRODUCT IF YOU PLAN TO WEAR IT
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I wore it one time and the friction between the material and my seat belt ruined the pullover. You can clearly see from should across chest pilling/rubbing from my seatbelt. What a waste of money. Should have went with Columbia for 1/3 the price

perfect transition fleece
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
the R1 is an ideal underlayer that can serve many uses - under a shell in moderate weather, it is warm, especially with activity - paired with a puffer or something more substantial, it can be a great underlayer - on 40 degree days that are warming into the 60s, it's ideal to transition wiht.

Outstanding shirt for cold weather!
The shirt fits tight but that is the design. This creates a very warm shirt. I was in Colorado in December 2023 with the weather being around 20 degrees or less. The R1 was perfect for such cold weather, especially with another layer of clothing. I quickly purchased another one. Highly recommend this product.

Tried & True

I generally get one of these every year, to replace my oldest in the rotation. Not sure what the gent below me is referring to, since the cuffs on these garments has remained the same for years. These are great for a wicking base>mid layer, depending on the temperature. I like them for morning climbs when it's a little windy & chilly. They also look great for lounging around or out on the town. Got the Obsidian color this year and have received a few compliments on the fit & color. DO NOT TOSS INTO THE DRYER! Not necessary! Oh, BTW: The "techie" face on the outside enables slipping your arms into a shell or jacket. Keep 'em coming, Patagonia; and maybe bring back the Casco Orange. I foolishly missed that color that year.

Smaller guy size review
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
I'm 5'5", 135lb, with ~34" chest and 29" waist. I'm often between an XS and S depending on the brand -- I just got an XS that fit, but was definitely tight. I'll be sizing up to the size S. The sleeves are a bit too long on the Small, but I think that's the right compromise for something that I'll be wearing for active sports. Haven't used it yet at all, but it feels super lightweight and relatively warm!

Not stoked on the new beading on sleeves
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
Been wearing R1’s for years. This new 1/2 zip has a beading material sewn around the sleeves and bottom. I want my R1 to be along for the ride, not reminding me it’s there every move.
