Comfortable and Fits Well
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
My first love is hoodies, but this one moves up to the front of the line for my light fleece tops. My first R1 Air loved it so much, bought another. I got a prior season color (blue on blue) that I really like for a discount, but paid full price for in-season color since I love the top so much. I've worn by itself on cool evenings/mornings and once as a mid-layer on a cold evening walk. very effective on its own or as a layer - warms up nicely when active but doesn't overheat.

Great for my morning run
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I was looking for a lightweight fleece for my winter morning runs in Sacramento. Something that is good for the 40s. This fleece worked great and is as advertised in that it kept me warm even when I was sweating. Patagonia has always been a challenge for me size-wise, but the large works well on my "I used to be fit, but now enjoy too many IPAs" body. I sometimes wear a medium with Patagonia, but I think this cut would be too small for me.

Nice 1/4 zip
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
Wanted to really like it but a little too snug for me. I wanted to wear a thinner base layer underneath and this as a mid-layer but not enough room for my liking. Had to return it. 4 stars due to sizing.

Great sweater for winter but runs small
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
This sweater is great for winter. It keeps me warm during cold and windy days in Chicago. However, this definitely runs small. I usually wear a size S in most brands including Patagonia. But a size M was the perfect fit for me.

Great lightweight performance fleece
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I was skeptical about buying this fleece based on the reviews on this website, but I decided to give it a chance. It fits perfectly. It runs slim, but it's supposed to run slim to wick away moisture. I haven't had a chance to use it on hikes yet but it doesn't seem overly warm if worn casually. I have a better sweater and a capilene air and it's somewhere in between the two on terms of warmth.

not entirely sold
I'm confused by the R1 Air and haven't decided the best use or combination for me yet. Patagonia lists it as a baselayer to midlayer. Wearing it as a baselayer, I felt it did not wick sufficiently to be a baselayer. I felt the between areas of the zig-zag weaving where it breathes was fine, but sweat was accumulating at the zig-zag weave so it wasn't wicking sufficiently to wear as a baselayer. One person's breathability is another person's wind penetration, which makes it a cold midlayer without a wind resistant/proof outer layer. Most recently I wore lightweight baselayer, the R1 Air zip neck, and R1 techface on a hike in 18F-20F temp, and felt it was comfortable with exertion. above 20F I had to take off the R1 Air and just wore the lightweight baselayer and R1 techface. I also tried another hike in same temp range wearing just the R1 Air zip neck under a Nano-Air hoody and that was too warm and the R1 Air zip neck wasn't working well as a base layer. I feel it is on the bulky side for packing. I'm not sure how I will use it given its air permiability/breathability and its packing bulkiness. It's sort of like The North Face's 50/50 line, which I also find perplexing. On one hand its breathable because of the gaps, on the other hand it is cold because of the gaps. Conversely, it can get too warm where there aren't any gaps. Last, I wish there were thumb loops.

Fits better than the full zip
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Torso isn?t as bulky as the full zip version with the hood. Make no sense but palo green is a really nice in person. Very warm even though it breathes well. Very niche. I run warm so I can use it below 20F over baselayer or as a baselayer because it?s so tight.

Toasty Warm, Runs Slim
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
This is a pretty interesting new addition to the R1 sub-brand. You put it on and immediately feel toasty warm. And it really shines under a shell to block the wind or precipitation. My first reaction was that it was too slim/tight; and I almost returned it. However, I decided to keep it and have noticed it sort of loosens up a bit as you wear it. But honestly, I cannot conceive how one could wear anything but an uber thin, and I mean UBER thin, garment underneath. Maybe an UA compression half-sleeve.
