Great hat

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought this hat for rainy weather here in the Midwest after seeing a friend wearing one. It's probably too hot for summer wear, but I think it will be a good choice for spring and fall showers. I recommend it.

Great rain hat

I bought this for my husband to wear when doing outdoor activities in the rain. He has worn it several times and loves it. The hat keeps him dry and looks much better than a lot of hats on the market. We would highly recommend.

Pros: Warm, Waterproof, fleece-lined, cord-retention, velcro flaps for folding the brim up, various colors for matching other Outdoor Research gear, stylish, size-chart includes military sizes Neutral: velcro (hook&loop) for brim retention is exact because it is velcro for Sails or Marine/Boat use that is designed for high-water exposure Cons: seemingly flimsy retention points for the neck strap, velcro (hook&loop) for brim retention is exact because it is velcro for Sails or Marine/Boat use, cant ranger roll the brim with the velcro :/ Summary: All-in-all, this is an awesome hat that I bought at the end of a Southern New England Winter that has been more rain than snow and this hat COULD be a game-changer in terms of heat rentention and the layering system for my spring bikepacking plans. Improves: If the retention points for the neck strap can hold up to a fidgety type of geardo, than I have zero complaints, and I swapped in my own cordloc from ITW Nexus. During writing this review I realized the type of Velcro being used must be some special type that does not lose its integrity during heavy rain and manuver, the velcro is super thick for a purpose and that it is to keep the brim up during incliment weather and this should be stated more explicitly. I feel neutrally about this because I wish I could be able to move the brim velcro point in conjuction with a headlamp but this does not affect the overall performance but limits my ability to "organize" my headgear. Not showcasing a military-style inspiration for a "sun hat" is fresh (or am I old now?) and I love it but can there be a way to stow the neck strap over the back top portion of the Seattle Sombrero? I love this hat and will buy another.

Again, Perfect full out rain protection!

This is my second Sombrero rain hat. My other is at least 15-years old and still works like the first day I took it out of the box! Your head stays 100% dry, did I say DRY? Yes, I did. If you're planning on hunting, backpacking or getting caught in a downpour while canoeing, then this is the hat you need -- and yes, you'll also get plenty of compliments on the look and style of this hat. Another great feature is the long tail, it keeps your neck and top back dry as a bone (just be sure to have rain pants and rain jacket on, then you'll be fine. NOTE: THIS HAT HAS AN ADJUSTANBE PULL ADJUSTMENT IN THE BRIM SO YOU CAN SLIGHTLY TIGHTEN IT OR LOOSEN IF NECESSARY. In a military style hat, I wear 7 1/4 and if you're my size I recommend the "L" or large, then tighten just a tad and perfection awaits you. Hurry up and buy one of these, you will NEVER regret it and wonder why you didn't buy sooner - it's a lifer! P.S., KEEP TWO-TONE COLORS, NOT THE DRAB SINGLE TONE, COME ON, WE'RE NOT WIMPS HERE.

OR ruined a good thing

I have several Seattle Sombreros, which I love. These new Seattle Rain Hats are terrible. As everyone else is finding out, they are no longer adjustable. I bought a couple size larges that I have to now return, waaayyy too big. I hope mediums will fit. I wish I would have read the reviews first, but who knew OR would totally screw up such a big seller. The new OR; profit over customer satisfaction. Sad.

Yikes! Huge

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

The hat is huge despite using the size guide. It’s nice and soft on the inside though and the colors are fun. Unfortunately it has to go back.

Internal cinch band

Ordered in a large. I love the hat but it is too big and there is no way to cinch it or to adjust it to ensure a proper fit. In the description of the hat it mentions a feature called an "internal Cinch band". In the past, the hat was smartly designed with an internal cinching system but apparently they are no longer manufacturing it with this feature. They continue to include this feature in the product description. Unfortunately, there is no way to make the hat fit comfortably with the new design. Sending back for a refund but apparently will have to pay shipping. Hopefully Backcountry will correct the description of the hat on their website.
