Why We Like The Aspen Dual/EXO/TR Tire
One of Maxxis's premiere XC tires, the Maxxis Aspen Dual/EXO/TR Tire is hungry to gobble up miles of singletrack at top speeds with minimal rolling resistance and a light, race-ready design. Affirming that wagon-wheels are the true dominators of cross-cross country, the Aspen packs in low-profile directional lugs in the center tread for rocketing on the straightaways, and aggressive side lugs that keep the confidence high when you barrel into corners. A high-volume casing helps to smooth out rock gardens and jarring root lattices, while EXO protection works to shield you from side punctures. The dual-compound construction means you've got hard, fast-rolling rubber in the center to keep you at top speeds, and extra grip on the sides that keeps you locked into loose berms.

So Solid
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
After years of other brands and some very nice high end tires, these are my first Maxxis tires. I have never had a tire mount tubeless as pure as these do (mounted to Roval 29 Control SL carbon) and I've unmounted and remounted this set a few times now. In terms of riding performance, I'm pretty floored. I don't do a lot of super muddy/chunky riding because I just don't ride trails during conditions like those unless it is a race. Though I did ride these for a marathon xc race where it poured for 3hrs and I had enough traction. For all other conditions in Michigan, including some rocky stuff in the UP, they are gold. I have the 29x2.4 variant front and rear, and it's like a perfect blend of speed, handling, damping (I ride HT) and float. I don't feel like I am paying a speed penalty (vs. a 2.2 or 2.3"). I've also run them for a 130mi+ event with every kind of terrain and they were great. The 2.4 is great on sandy mix terrain. I really love these tires.
