Why We Like The Mondo Evo Bib Shorts

For Louis Garneau's Mondo Evo Bib Shorts, it brings together three high-tech fabrics, each one specifically designed and chosen to excel at its intended purpose and location on the bibs. And while comfort trumps style when it comes to bibs, these bibs manage to blend both. They are available in colors that complement jerseys already in your wardrobe, making the Mondo perfect to pick up if you are completing a kit, especially if your current bibs are a little worse for the wear and have seen better days.

The Mondo Evo bib shorts incorporate the advanced Cell-Ion fabric for form-fitting compression. Cell-Ion contains Celliant, a revolutionary technology that returns reflected energy to the body to trigger increased blood flow and oxygen levels. This, in conjunction with the 10-panel construction, results in increased performance with less fatigue and greater overall comfort. Many shorts offer some sort of sun protection these days and the Mondo Evo is no exception and steps it up to provide a hefty UPF 50 rating, protecting your legs from harsh UV exposure on long summer rides where you typically don't apply sunscreen. Cell-Ion is constructed with 17% premium Invista Lycra, providing maximum stretch and compression beyond the basic knit of most bibs. This super Lycra allows for an impressive range of motion and a supportive fit that stabilizes muscles, reducing fatigue.

Carbon X Mesh panels handle the bib and strap duties, for its increase wicking and breathability where restricted airflow can prove stifling in warmer conditions. The textured mesh prevents it from sticking to your skin offering maximum ventilation. Resistex carbon fiber, the third material, contains antistatic properties and provides additional stretch and sun protection. At the leg openings, wide Aero Lazer bands provide a snug and compressive fit that holds the hem in place without silicone grippers that most shorts require. The high spandex content in the fabric provides a 4-way stretch that returns to place season after season preventing you from tugging them back into place on every pedal stroke.

These bibs feature the 4Motion chamois complete with 3D pre-shaped wings that have a mesh vented split on the rear for increased ventilation while allowing the chamois to articulate and move with you. The wings are seamless and sit snugly against your thighs to prevent chafing and friction. Mesh-lined perforations at the front of the chamois offer an increase of air circulation helping to keep you cool and dry. The multi-density, perforated memory foam is also ergonomically designed with a central channel that helps relieve pressure over long rides. Finally, the four-way stretch 4Motion chamois is topped with a carbon sheet to combat odor and improve hygiene.

Rounding out details, these shorts feature a back radio pocket, for racing duties and reflective logos to help improve visibility to drivers in low-light conditions.

good quality- sizing is weird

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I have two pairs of Garneau bibs and really like them, I got these in an xl- I'm 5'9" and 185 lbs (think more athletic/thick) than standard skinny cyclist. XL has been correct across Garneau previously and Castelli. The quality is good, but they are too short- I am not tall, and the bib straps are too tight length wise and they are short on the leg. That is not a function of being bigger in thighs or buttocks, but length is weird.

Hmmm, not great.

Sadly these shorts are, well, short. The inseam is maybe 9 inches. Not only that, the grippers don't grip. These shorts ride up to the point that they might be mistaken for a Speedo.

Not what I bought two years ago

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I bought a pair of these in 2021. That pair was comfortable and fit well. The new pair, same size, is tight and uncomfortable. It's as if a large pair was mislabeled XL or Louis Garneau downsized the design. Very disappointed.

Ok, not great.

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

If you prefer a short without strong leg grippers, this is your short. I have used this short for years until it eventually tore and fell apart between the panels. Like most bike shorts they get baggier over time. The pad is pretty comfortable, even for hours in the saddle on the trainer on a TT bike. I recently repurchased them (they were on sale) in a medium (I’m 6’0 168lb) Shoulder straps are way too tight, and the lack of decent leg adhesion makes for a short which rides up in a most irritating way. On the trainer or out in the real world, i was constantly hiking them down. There are better options at a similar price point.

Excellent bibs

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I've purchased 3 pairs of these bibs over the past couple of years. Comfortable and durable; these things really hold up. They are worth the money, particularly if you buy them on sale. I ride my road bike 200+ days a year (4-5000 miles/year), and alternate between pairs. Ride, machine wash on gentle, & hang dry. I estimate that each pair lasts in excess of 5000 miles before they start to break down primarily from sun exposure and washing. About once a year I retire my oldest pair and purchase a new pair when they go on sale.

Uncomfortable in the frontal region

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I love the shoulder straps on these bibs and also the overall look. But man, it is very uncomfortable in the crotch! I thought for a minute I had purchased women's bibs they were that uncomfortable.

So close, but no

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

These shorts are *almost* great, but one design choice ruined them for me. The material used in the leg grippers - and also, inexplicably, a diagonal pattern across the front of each thigh - is terrible. Thin as a sheet of plastic wrap, almost totally transparent, and doesn't stretch as readily as the rest of the material in the shorts. Sent them back after a test fit - didn't even bother trying to ride in them. The fit is far too weird. It's a bummer, because the main material of the shorts, the overall fit (sizing, bib strap length, etc) and the chamois all seemed top-notch. I wish kit makers would stop putting different materials in their shorts just for the sake of marketing. Went with the more basic "Fit Sensor 3" shorts, and while the chamois on those isn't as impressive, the shorts material is at least consistently comfortable throughout the entire leg.

So comfortable

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Went on my first ride today in these. The material is top notch. Soft, flexible and breathable. After 15 miles on a rough mountain bike trail I give them 5 stars.

Great bib shorts

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

After a disappointing purchase of a pair of Fit Sensor 3 bib shorts, I decided to splurge a bit on these bib shorts. They are worth the money (especially now that they are on sale). Well made with high tech fabric, incredibly comfortable fit, and a chamois that is well designed for long rides. The compression bands at the bottoms are not too constricting and keep the shorts in place during a ride. The only unusual feature of these shorts is their length - with an 11.25 inch inseam, they are among the longest shorts around. This means that they come close to your knees when standing but I found that when I was actually on the bike, the length was fine. Great bib shorts, especially for long rides.
