Why We Like The Lazer G1 MIPS Helmet

We choose the G1 MIPS Helmet for our road rides because the ventilation and aerodynamic profile make it an efficient option for logging miles. 22 total vents keep us cool and Lazer’s Rollsys retention system provides a 360degree fit and comfort in a lightweight design that adjusts from the top of the helmet and away from our hair. For added peace of mind, a MIPS layer in the G1 redirects rotational forces in the event of an impact.

Great ventilation and saved my life!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I have always liked the look of the Lazer G1. I’m completely bald (always have been) and am really picky about good ventilation as it is obvious to me how a helmet performs in that area. I also live in Texas where 100 degree rides are common. The helmet is as well ventilated as the most ventilated I have owned at least. I have been riding since the 80’s and MTB and road since the 90’s. Shape is similar to Giro. The head ‘cradle’ structure which I suppose makes this a MIPS helmet very naturally hugs your head with no pressure points. In many years of riding I have cracked some helmets on and off road. I always walked away alive. It had been over 20 years since my last spill of that type. I bought a second Lazer G1 helmet in white for some variety. About a week later riding perhaps too quickly on an asphalt trail after several days of rain, I hit an algae-like slick patch on the apex of a turn. It was like ice. I ended pretty badly bruised and with raspberry pie along my entire left side. I had gone off the trail into some concrete erosion barriers. While a bit dazed, my Lazer saved me. I rode half a mile further stopping at a bench to self assess. The helmet had two significant imprints of the concrete barriers. It happened so quickly that I did not remember hitting my head. Ultimately, my point is the helmet feels like it disappears when on from the nice fit and ventilation AND it did it’s job! I’m alive yet again to continue riding. I ordered the exact same helmet again by the end of the day.

good helmet but some issues for me

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

glasses wouldnt store in the helmet well and the cinch mechanism got in the way of wearing glasses. Also cinch was hard to tighten down enough. eveything else was good about the helmet, only used a few times before returning

Fit is Weird

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

Returned before using. I really wanted this helmet to work since it is rated very high on Virginia Tech. I have hair and it keep getting caught in the front of the helmet. Also, suggestions about the fit being an odd shape I agree with. Helmet was tight from front to back, but gaping on the sides. Way to much play to have the added pads fill. Loved the bright color!

Requires hair

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

Seems like a great helmet: light, highly rated etc. But the helmet has a thin hard plastic attachment that fits around the back of your head which holds the helmet in place. This part of the helmet is integral to the design but only appears in one of the pictures advertising the helmet. Without hair the plastic is instantly uncomfortable - deal breaker.

Safety and Excellent Fit Rolled into One

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Hey if you are looking for one of the safest helmets out there for a bicycle look no further!! This is one of the highest rated helmets by the Virginia Institute of Tech and it looks great as well! I'm very particular about my helmet safety and fit, if the helmet doesn't fit just right i get a massive headache after about an hour or so on the bike. I've had Lazer helmets in the past and they have worked quite well for me and this G1 is no exception. I haven't had it out on the road yet (to much snow) but did test it out on the trainer it no headache!! I checked the size chart, measured my noggin and ordered and it fits spot on! You only have one brain do yourself a favor pick up a safe helmet add a Protect+ plan just in case you crash or drop the helmet and get it replaced no questions asked!!

Chin strap keeps it from floating away!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Upon unboxing this helmet, I was immediately impressed by the weight and design. I received this helmet in the winter, and haven?t got to ride it in super warm weather yet, but am excited for the temps to rise to really see the benefits to this helmet. I got it for gravel and bikepacking, where risk is a little bit lower and my days are longer and usually warmer. Having only used this helmet for some long gravel rides this winter, I have been psyched on how it fits with a skull cap or cycling cap underneath. It fits like a glove and the fit adjusting thumbwheel is easy to dial in with some thicker gloves on. Once again, this thing is LIGHT. There are also no restrictions in visibility with the helmet on - I can?t see any part of it while riding, it doesn?t slide around, and it barely feels like I?m wearing anything. The minimal padding is good if you?re a sweater because it doesn't saturate much. The portion that cradles the back of your head is light and supple and doesn?t feel too stiff or plasticy. There is plenty of adjustment on the earloops/chin strap with a minimalist buckle and slider design. I?ve also had issues in the past with the MIPS squeaking from time to time on other helmets, but not with this one. The helmet comes with some different pad options and a travel bag which is a nice touch. Overall, a super high-quality LIGHT and adjustable helmet from a reputable company that would best suit road or gravel riders in warm climates or doing long days. Psyched on the G1!

Great Do It All Helmet

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

This helmet has a great mix of lightweight, breathability, and comfort. On top of that, it looks sleek and has a nice low profile. The standout for me was the Rollsys adjustment - it was different from any other helmet I have ever used, and a little bit finicky to figure out at first, but once I got it dialed in, it made for an extremely comfortable and secure fit.

This helmet could save your life.

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I had a major crash a few months after purchasing this helmet doing a solo training ride. I was knocked unconscious for 16 minutes, broke 7 bones (6 ribs and my right clavicle), had gashes taken out of my face, knees, elbows, etc. Outside of being unconscious from the initial impact (I went over the handle bars head first) I exhibited no signs of a concussion. That is extraordinary and I'm so thankful I had this helmet on when I crashed.

fits wonderfully

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

i keep things for a LONG time, even repairing 20+ y/o capilene or replacing my locally made Moonstone goretex jacket after more yrs w an arc'teryx alpha sv. So, yes this is spendy. I came to this both as highest rated and light. I cldnt figure out the knurl on top immediately until i watched what it did when off my head. after i found out how it cynches up i found the way it gently hugs yr head all the way around to be like a dream. i also bought the correct aeroshell to clip over. i expect to be using this gorgeous helmet for at least a decade.

Dissapointing fit system

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I had researched this purchase for a good year or more looking for the best non mushroom helmet for my big noggin. It did have a low profile, tighter fit, which was good. However I have to confirm what another reviewer wrote. The tightening fit mechanism didn't work for me. I couldn't get it to fit as snug as the standard wire systems. Also, the space above my ear to the bottom of the helmet was excessively large leaving a huge gap in protection. Maybe it was just my noggin, but I'm pretty sure I read a similar review that mentioned the same issue.
