It only takes one steep skinner to learn the value of lightweight backcountry ski gear, but you also don't want to sacrifice downhill performance for an easier uphill. The G3 Ion 10 Binding is one of the few alpine touring bindings that weighs around a pound and still provides DIN settings suitable for rowdy-but-safe ski sessions in the backcountry. With lower release values than the Ion 12, this 4-10 version is ideal for the lighter, less-aggressive skier who doesn't need the extra retention.
The Ion 10 maintains the same freeride design of the 12 with a wide mount that's 33% wider than traditional tech bindings, helping to more effectively transfer power to the edges of wide freeride skis. The heel piece delivers better downhill performance and gives the heel the ability to absorb energy and maintain consistent forward pressure. Since touring bindings spend the majority of their time going up, G3 refined the climbing features on the Ion, so you'll spend less time trying to figure out which way to turn the heel piece, scraping ice from the toe piece, and trying to get your toe into the binding.
