Why We Like The Fox Racing Ranger Short
The Ranger Shorts are among Fox Racing's most popular items because they're the shorts that so many of us cut our own trail teeth on. The Ranger sits right at the knee, with ample room to pedal and stretch out without it being baggy like a gravity-specific short, but the waist is easier to dial on the fly, even if you can only spare one hand for waistband fiddling.

Fox slippin
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I just ordered these. great fit, but the stitching has begun to unravel. After 15 years of Fox shorts....

Chamois hurts my bits and pieces
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I bought these purely for the color of the shorts and I've had ranger shorts in the past. Shorts are nice. I like them and look good off the bike too. The chamois on the other hand is as useful as just stuffing a single tissue in your shorts in terms of comfort on your delicates. Previous chamois' that are several years old feel better than this one new on the ol' wedding tackle.

Material is a problem
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
First of all, I have multiple other Fox shorts, as well as other brands. This particular model is a material with some elastic to it. No issue specifically with it being elastic, but the material seems a little grippy with the seat. It makes it difficult to mount the bike, and when I was in front of the saddle it got stuck making it impossible to get back on the saddle. Seems to be more of an issue when it is damp, but that will be the case all summer with sweat. I am not exaggerating when I say for the duration of the ride I hated these shorts.

Bad design. Wrong button selection
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
WHY Do they have a snap-on button? WHYYYY??? Everything else is good with these shorts. BUT, and this is a big BUT, the snap-on button just comes loose super easily. Every time I put my hands in my pocket to grab my phone. Every time I need to accommodate my hip-pack. It's just not meant to work with MTB activities. As a reference, they are loose on me. I promise is not a tight belly issue.

Keep coming back to these
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
This is probably my third pair of Ranger shorts and I keep coming back to them as my preferred shorts for biking. They are simple and to the point and the 32 fits me just as well as other size 32 pants and shorts. The liner that comes with these is very nice as well. For a pair of bike shorts that won?t break the bank you can?t go wrong with the Rangers.

Wow these are badly designed
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
To say that I was underwhelmed by these shorts would be an epic understatement. These are some of the most poorly designed mountain biker shorts I've ever tried. The first is issues is these are longer than described in Backcountry's listing. Secondly, the liner short is laughably weak for a short of this price, with thin chamois that isn't very effective at tamping vibration, and the waistband lack sufficient elasticity to keep them up when you ride. They also lack compression in the legs. The outer short portion is even more poorly designed, with a too slim (vertically) waistband and the cinch straps don't stay where you adjust, loosening constantly while you ride, leaving you having to frequently pull the shorts back up and re-cinch them - the adjustment straps would be better with a locking cam on them, or just make them Velcro so they don't slip. Definitely do not recommend these, they're awful.

Not the same as the older models
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
I own two older models of this short that fit me perfectly. I'm 5'10" 145lbs, cyclist build. I don't like baggy clothes. Fox just went with the trend of Fattening America and seemingly just sized up across the line. Size Sm that used to fit me perfectly now just fits like all the garbage enduro-brah stuff out there. Waist is bigger and inseam is longer. Returning... the search continues. Also really don't like that the waist adjustment is external and visible. Adds an additional element of cheapness to the product. Previous models had internal velcro size fitment. I didn't notice that in the pics when ordering the black color.
