UPF 50+ Light Leg Sleeves

The Solare fabric used in Castelli's UPF 50 Plus Light Leg Sleeves is a synthetic blend with a polyester base, so the Sleeves wick moisture and breathe like a more efficient layer of second skin. Unlike the actual skin they protect, though, the UPF 50 Plus Leg Skins protect against the harmful rays of the sun. Cyclists tend to spend a lot more time under the sun than other endurance athletes, so the added bit of protection is especially appreciated in the saddle. The Leg Sleeves' efficient moisture management also mean they keep you warmer in cool conditions, so they're ideal companions to pack in a pocket during long, July climbs and pull on to ward off speed wobbles caused by shivering during high-speed, chilly descents. Your legs are your engines; treat them well.

Works for me

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Purchased these mainly for protection from poison oak, as I'm hypersensitive to it. The sleeves feel cooler than expected, even on warm, sunny days; especially since I got them in black instead of white. I'm short, so the zipper's a bit long on me; probably should have gotten the unzippered type. Regardless, haven't felt any discomfort while riding, and prefer these leg sleeves vs. wearing long/tall socks.

Excellent leg sleeves

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I have been wearing them for years in peak summers as I hate putting on sun screen lotions and these leg sleeves are perfect!! I do road cycling and had no issues with them at all.

Does the job

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I have used these many times over the summer. It is perfect at providing sun protection. The material is light and breezy even in SC heat and humidity. Your legs move enough to provide plenty of airflow to keep them nice and cool. After many rides, the gripper stopped working after riding for an hour or two. The sleeve would just start slipping down my thighs and would end up around my ankles. You can pull these under your bibs to help hold them up, but I still have had problems with it slipping. Eventually I got a rip by the top seam. It looks like there are little holes in the fabric around the top gripper. This is where mine failed. If you look at my picture, those mini-holes are all the way around the top of both of my sleeves. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I have not had an issue with the zipper. I also have the arm sleeves and those have been perfect so far! Your arms move far less than your legs, so the gripper has a better chance of working. I ordered a large and that seemed to work for a while until I started having issues with it slipping. I did not lose any major weight during this period. For reference, my quads are 19.5" (~5" above my knee). I am a road cyclist and typically ride 2-3 hours when I am using these.
