Why We Like The Black Diamond Recon Stretch Bib Ski Pant
Whether we're earning your turns or lapping lifts, the Recon Stretch Bib Ski Pant from Black Diamond keeps us comfortable, moving, and dry. Its BD.dry waterproof membrane offers protection on stormy days while also providing breathability on long tours in the backcountry. An updated, low-profile beacon pocket stows avy gear when we venture out of bounds, and thigh pockets store daily necessities. Offset side venting dumps heat when we're boot-packing and lapping turns in deep powder, while the high-mounted snow gaiter keeps out those fresh flakes for day-long comfort in the snow.

The Good and the Bad
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I purchased these pants a couple weeks ago specifically for a trip to Utah. I wanted something that would handle both front side and the back country....as well as something with reinforced gators. I had cheaper Mountain Hardwear pants that weren't reinforced in the gator area and didn't hold out the snow. I really liked the fit of the Recon and they really hold in wet conditions. However, I'm disappointed with the durability. After 3 days of skiing (2 at Alta and 1 in the back country), I noticed that the gators were ripped and giving way. I get that it might happen, but not after a few days of skiing. So, the main reason that I purchased the pants is now out the window. Was hoping for better from these.

Weird sizing/fit
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
Wanted to love these but returning before using. I'm 5'10"and a fit (no beer belly) 175 lbs and purchased a medium. The top part of the bib is ridiculously small and tight, (no way to layer and constraining) while below the knees its like a circus tent. So, in other words, upsizing to large may fit my chest but the legs would be even more unwieldy with excessive fabric. Cannot fathom what the designers were thinking with these or what body type was their template.

Awesome Bib
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I purchased this for an upcoming trip to the Big 3 in Banff and just tried it them out yesterday at Big Bear. Initial impressions are comfortable and form fitting. Love the chest pockets. They are snug in the torso however. Not too tight or baggy in the legs, just right. I'm 5'7", 155lbs and just fit into a size small. Another 5-10lbs and I'd suggest a medium. Looking forward to testing them out in powder but so far so good!

Nope... Try again BD
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
I purchased these bibs to replaced a pair of 40-denier GoreTex 3L bibs from another manufacturer that were shredded around the boot cuffs after 200+ days of mixed resort and touring use. I wasn't expecting these to be bomb-proof but, I thought they might be a good value. I was sold on the integrated beacon pocket/lanyard and the side-zips. After receiving them, I can safely say that you get what you pay for. These are 2x the weight of the 3L bibs I intended to replace and the fabric is delicate in comparison to 40-denier 100% nylon hard shell fabric. There are re-enforcements around the ankles but it's not where the buckles on your ski boots or ski edges are going to rub - it's on the back of the cuff. The stretch in the fabric is minimal. I'm frankly not sure what the point is. I'd put them on par with resort style bibs made from polyester. Similar weight, price and durability.
