Compactor Ski Poles

While you're all about earning your turns, you're not too keen on tacking on more weight than necessary. So when it comes time to get elevated, reach for the Black Diamond Compactor Ski Pole and trek onward—lightly. With a little help from a quick-release button, the pole folds down into three compact pieces that stay connected with a flexible yet tenacious cord (Black Diamond calls this technology Z-Pole), which also makes it easy to stow when it's not in use. A FlickLock Pro mechanism allows you to adjust the length easily, and the Compactor boasts reinforcements at the joints. And thanks to its simple and effective design, you can save your battles for the terrain at hand and focus on getting to the fun part.

The only pole for splitboarders

I've used these exclusively for splitboard touring, they are the only way to go. They could be more durable but I can't live without them.

AT, Side Country, and Resort!!

These poles do it all!! Such versatility, such light weight (relatively), and great strength.

Poles

Great poles for compacted size. Last couple pairs I had issues with the connectors.

Connecting joints prone to failure

Failure mode: Sections of the pole freeze together, and splitboarders at the top of a slope must apply lots of force to twist and pull the frozen sections apart. This force can detach the inner sleeve that bridges the sections. The inner sleeve is normally attached to one section and the other section slides over it like a tent pole. If the inner sleeve slips completely into one section, you can't join the pole. If you manage to join to pole in the field with a loose joint, an outer sleeve may crack without sufficient support if the joint has slipped from it's original position. I've tried to epoxy the inner sleeves back, but they fail again eventually. On my older version of the compactor poles, the "button" often got stuck and wouldn't pop out to hold the pole together. (Maybe galvanic corrosion because it looked like the steel button was corroding). That may have gotten fixed with newer versions, but the joint problem seems to still be an issue according to other reviews here. In the summer, the z-pole construction may not have the same problems, but these poles can be frustrating if you are a splitboarder who uses these poles heavily. It's nice to have a pole that collapses small enough to fit in a pack, but I wouldn't suggest these poles for winter use.

Compact ski poles

They arrived very quickly. I bought these for my husband for Christmas. He uses them when walking in thee pasture for balance. He is a left leg above the knee amputee and trains his Boeder Collies.

BDs version of a great product.

No real advancements in tech here. I think other companies have better baskets and design but these work great and seem to be sturdy enough.

I was looking for compactable

I was looking for compactable poles that I could easily tuck into my pack for mountaineering. Used them this weekend and they performed great on the downhill too. Pleased with my purchase.

Whammies

Not sure where I am gonna keep that Allen key...the top of the grips are too hard, they slip when I am trying to push down my whammy bars. My old collapsible had more of a rubber head. Pushing with the basket is a challenge, And the torque exerted on the basket and the whammy bar is not ideal. Otherwise they are great.

Well designed and made backountry poles

I've only used these a few times but the convivence of setting up, adjust length, breaking down, and packing these is great. They're light and seem like they will hold up for a long time.

Sturdy, but one flaw may fail at inopportune time

Compact, light, sturdy, but the spring-loaded locking button may freeze in the open or closed position. This button is also small and can be very difficult to engage with mitts or cold fingers.
