1st time Trekking Pole - total convert
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
My wife and I purchased these in anticipation of a fairly intense hike [Pico - Pico trail in Madeira] , they arrived quickly and were reasonably simple to work out how to unravel for use then convert back to compact size for checked luggage packing. We ended up watching a few videos online - who knew there's 'certified trekking pole instructors ' ! to get a sense of how to best use these - I can't say we're totally dialled in now, but managed to get a reasonable gist of best practices. These poles feature cork handles so in hot/humid conditions they remained quite comfortable. The real deal - these were incredible - " game changer" for steep descents - no more 'knees as shock absorbers' in some pretty intense conditions, and additionally were very useful for ascents - but I'd say the most noticeable difference was for really steep descents where I [6ft tall] might have otherwise restored to hands/knees to avoid some nasty slips or falls. My wife - 5'2 , had a different size and was equally delighted with the differences they made for both ascent and descent. My suggestion - if you're wanting to hike/trek areas with reasonably steep/slippery surfaces, these are a must-try, I'm not sure of the return policy if they don't work for you, but based on my friends' experiences and my own, providing you order the correct size and read/watch up on how to best use, you'll most likely want to use trekking poles always in future !

NOT a cork handle!
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
I really wanted to like these. They are well built and fold down very small. Overall they are a great design but the handles are not cork. They are a soft foam, maybe EVA I don't really know. They might even be comfortable for a long hike but I can't use them and still return them so I wasn't willing to take the chance. The shortest these go when assembled is 125cm so are NOT for short people. I'm 6' and sometimes I actually set my poles shorter than that. Cork wicks sweat and keeps your hands dry on a long hike, it is used for a reason. This foam may do that too? I just wish they had a correct description.

Best Hiking Poles!
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I've been hiking with a pair of big box store brand poles for a while now and I love how well they've worked out for me, but I decided that it was time to try out some carbon poles for easier packing and less weight to carry so I ordered these poles. I used them for the first time yesterday, and they are FANTASTIC! I usually only carry poles for the descent because of my knees, but carried them for the full hike bc the grips are so comfortable (and the last 1/4 mile up was pretty gnar gnar). They are super light and easy to fold up at the end of the hike (or during if you don't need them), and were the perfect height for me. For reference I'm 5'9" and ordered the 115-135cm poles and the lowest setting was the perfect height - I potentially could have sized down for times when a shorter pole will be needed, but it doesn't change how game changing these poles are for me.
